We Love.....DIRT!!

Because today was the first really nice day in about six months, I took the kids outside to blow bubbles. They were much more interested in the dirt. Here's Portia's first experience with mud. First, she had to investigate it.

Then she picked it up to see what happened.

Finally, she had to try it. At least we can honestly say that Portia's not afraid of getting dirty!

Then we have Palmer, who sat down in the dirt and didn't get up until we had to go in for lunch.

The Many Accomplishments of Palmer

So, I've decided that Palmer is happily an abnormal toddler. He'll be three in June and he's decided that he wanted to learn to write. So after learning about 50 words on sight (basic words like Mom, Dad, cat, dog, run, sit, etc.), he thought it was time to learn to write his letters. So one morning he pulled out the DoodlePro magnetic writing board and sat down beside me. He turned to me and said, "Mom, let's write letters." I thought that meant that I was to write letters for him to identify, which is what we usually do. Instead he drew an "A" and said, "Good A, Palmer. What's next?" He proceeded to write every letter of the alphabet nearly perfectly. I just sat there and laughed. Here's his R, abandoned in favor of cars for the rest of the morning.

Yesterday, Palmer succeeded in putting on his own shoes. For a really smart kid, his spatial awareness is pretty slow. He's just now deciding that he wants to pull his own pants up and put on his own socks and shoes. Every time he tries to do any of these things, he has failed and thrown himself on the floor crying. Poor kid. It must be frustrating for him. Then yesterday, we had success. Here's what the result is!

The latest accomplishment of Palmer is really just my recognition of the fact that i have a very orderly son (he must take after his dad). When I asked Palmer to help me clean up his room before naptime, this is what I got. He spends most of his playtime lining things up. He's started putting them in color order or number order lately. It's pretty funny to watch. I am amazed at this little kid. Yet another reason why I love being a mom.
